How Coatings and PPF Affect Warranty, Insurance, and Resale Value
March 5, 2026 · 7 min read

Manufacturer warranties on PPF and ceramic coatings, how documentation works at resale, and how protection products interact with your insurance and dealership warranty.
Manufacturer warranties on PPF
Premium PPF brands like GSWF carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking, peeling, and lifting when installed by a certified installer. The warranty is registered to your VIN at the time of install and transfers with the vehicle on resale.
What the warranty covers: defects in the film itself and installation-related failures. What it does not cover: damage to the film from collisions, intentional damage, or improper aftercare. Most large incidents — a fallen branch, a parking lot key — are replaceable panels of film, often partially covered.
Manufacturer warranties on ceramic coatings
FeynLab coatings carry warranties from 2 years (Ceramic Lite) to lifetime (Self Heal Plus). The warranty requires registration at the time of install and most tiers require an annual inspection at a certified shop to remain active.
The warranty covers loss of hydrophobicity and gloss within the coverage period when the vehicle is maintained per the brand's aftercare guidelines. It does not cover damage from neglect, harsh chemicals, or improper washing.
How protection products help at resale
Documented PPF and ceramic coatings increase resale value for two reasons: the vehicle's paint is in measurably better condition than a comparable unprotected vehicle, and a transferable manufacturer warranty is a real benefit to the next owner.
We provide a full digital records package with every install — invoice, photos, VIN-registered warranty cards — that you can hand to a buyer or dealer at trade-in.
Insurance and dealer warranty interaction
PPF and coatings have no effect on your manufacturer warranty under U.S. law (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act). A dealer cannot void your warranty simply because you have aftermarket paint protection installed.
Some comprehensive auto insurance policies cover PPF replacement when associated damage is covered — for example, hail damage that destroys the film as it dents the panel. Talk to your insurance agent before the install if this is important to you.
